Tell me about yourself is perhaps the most important question which decides the future course of the interview. This question may look simple at first sight but when you try anwering it, may frustrate you.You need to know yourself for answering this question. Do you all remember the saying 'First impression is the last impression'. Hence answering this question requires utmost care.
I have heard many people speaking about their family when asked this question. Did the HR asked about your family or about you?HR don't wish to know about your family nor he has time to do so. He is only concerned about you.So you need to speak only about yourself for some 30-60 seconds. But only speak the truth. Because if you lie, you may be laying trap for yourself. For eg, you say your hobby is reading novels. You may be asked to speak onthe book for 5min or asked about any character.So please be honest.
So what you can say in this question: you may speak about your education- from high school to graduation,you strengths,weakness and what you have done to overcome your weakness, you hobbies and your interest.If you have done any certification course, you may tell about that. In case your percentage in graduation or school is not good, don't say about it. And guys, please speak slowly and softly.Don't speak in a hurry and never panic. Try speaking the About Yourself for a minimum of 20times befor the interview and pretend as if you are speaking on your own, you haven't learnt it by heart.
And please don't panic.You are only for a chat with the interviewer. If you feel some kind of tension, breathe deeply 10 time and say "Come on,you can do it".
